The availability of home testing kits for COVID-19 has its pluses and minuses according to Michael Dulitz of the Grand Forks Health Department.
Dulitz says while it offers convenience to those seeking a test it also runs the risk of under-counting of positive results in a community…if not reported. “The benefit of home testing is people can have peace of mind at home.”
Dulitz told Grand Forks County Commission members that there has been an uptick in COVID cases in recent weeks – especially among those 20 to 29. “Surprisingly much of the fall and early winter the 20-29 group has had a relatively low case burden It’s not what I expected with college students but what we’ve seen is the past two weeks is a lot of cases and classed are out of session.”
On a positive note Dulitz says Grand Forks County is 200 arms away from reaching the goal of achieving a 60% vaccination rate.
