The Grand Forks Police Department has received certification from the Commission for Law Enforcement Agencies – or CALEA.
Created in 1979 the national agency provides public safety agencies with an opportunity to meet an established set of professional standards.
Currently only 4% of law enforcement agencies in the U.S. are CALEA accredited. The GFPD is one of only four agencies in the tri-state area of North Dakota…South Dakota…and Minnesota to achieve the mark. In addition the department was one of only seven this fall to achieve the Accredited with Excellence honor.
This is the GFPD’s third national accreditation award – the others coming in 2014 and 2017. The next round will be in 2025.
