GFPD hands out awards and certificates

By Doug Barrett Dec 18, 2021 | 10:04 AM

Grand Forks police took time this week to honor officers and members of the public during an annual awards ceremony.

A total of 14 members were acknowledged for years of service ranging from 5 to 25 years.    Cpl. Patrick Torok received a 30 year award.

An Appreciation Award was handed out to some young residents regarding a July kidnapping incident in south Grand Forks.  Four neighborhood friends witnessed what had happened and immediately told their parents who called 911.  The actions of the friends helped police solve this case.  The friends were able to provide a suspect description and a description of the vehicle.
According to the GFPD the information was broadcast on the radio and Officer Green recognized it as a vehicle he often saw in his assigned patrol sector.  This led to  detectives finding the suspect and vehicle and an eventual arrest.
In making the presentation police stated “We greatly appreciate the willingness of Kylie, Kaileece, Dean and Zander to become involved to help their friend.  We also commend Officer Green for his knowledge of his sector and proactive policing mindset to commit this type of information to memory.”

A Medal of Merit was issue to officers who responded to a September robbery and gunshot incident in north Grand Forks that left a woman dead.  The suspect was apprehended without further incident.

The Meritorious Service – Sgt. Wayne Andy Anderson – Award was presented to Cpl. Justin O’Neill.
