EGF looking to finalize 2022 city budget

By Doug Barrett Dec 15, 2021 | 8:22 AM

The East Grand Forks council is one vote away from adopting a 2022 operating budget.  The proposed spending plan totals $12.4 million dollars and includes a 5% levy increase next year.  It also projects a $457,456 dollar shortfall that would be covered by budget reserves.

Council member Marc DeMers predicts when 2022 comes to a close the deficit spending will be below that figure.  “We will be even higher than that on revenues or lower on expenditures.  Based on past trends I think we will be under $200,000.”

Final budget approval is expected next Tuesday.

In other council notes…members received a first look at three potential Ward maps due to population changes and redistricting.  The goal is to have five equal with 1,835 people per ward.  One option would move current council member Clarence Vetter out of Ward 1.  Final approval is not expected until March.
