The East Grand Forks council has voted to move forward with plans and specs on the reconstruction of 5th Avenue and 20th Street despite neighborhood concerns over the price-tag of the project.
The current roadway is 48 years old and in poor condition. The “fix” ranges in cost from just shy of $1.9 million dollars for concrete to $1.55 million for an asphalt street.
Several homeowners spoke out against the special assessment charges they face saying they simply cannot afford it.
Mayor Steve Gander told those in attendance that moving forward with planning is not the final vote – and the city will continue to work to bring the costs down. The council advanced the plan on a 4-3 vote.
