Five charged in a Meth Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

By Doug Barrett Nov 9, 2021 | 8:56 AM

A federal grand jury has indicted five individuals in a drug trafficking case with ties to Grand Forks.  Acting U.S. Attorney Nick Chase says much of the meth was being distributed on the Spirit Lake and Turtle Mountain Reservations.

Authorities arrested 40-year old Nathan Smith in January following a high speed chase.  A search of his vehicle found 73 grams of methamphetamines.  The investigation alleges that the drugs came from 50-year old Corey Baker of Sheyenne (ND) through 36-year old Charlsie Walking Elk of Tokio (ND).

Baker was arrested in June following a traffic stop in Grand Forks.  Baker’s associates were identified as 57-year old Allan Widmayer of Minot and 25-year old Uzziel Garcia of Arizona.

The investigation claims Baker had been receiving 2-3 pounds of meth per month from Widmayer and Garcia since 2018.

Grand jury Indictments are allegations and are not evidence of guilt.
