The Dean of UND’s Medical School says the latest data suggests per capita cases of COVID are lower on college campuses than the counties they reside in.
Dr. Joshua Wynne says that includes the larger universities in Grand Forks and Fargo. “This would suggest we are not the cause of community spread but rather the recipient of community spread. The trend seems to be overall that we are doing somewhat better than the communities which our campuses locate in.”
The largest age groups being impacted by the Delta variant are those 20-29 and 30-39.
Wynne says he agrees with modeling that suggest there could be a dramatic drop in COVID cases over the next six months due to increased vaccination and natural immunity.
