GF school officials still eye future needs

By Doug Barrett Sep 30, 2021 | 8:58 AM

With a successful referendum out of the way Grand Forks school officials can renew focus on what to do with some aging north end schools.  In June voters rejected a plan that would merge three elementary schools into a campus with Valley Middle School.

Superintendent Terry Brenner says he doesn’t know how soon the conversation will begin – but the issue is not going away.  “The public has heard this before that we are one steam pipe away from having to close Valley Middle School.  We do need to stand up a new campus on that site.  More planning needs to be done…and engaging the community even more than the last time.”

On Tuesday 66% of voters supported a ten mill bump in the school building fund – a move that will generate $2.5 million dollars annually for the district.
