GF voters approve school tax hike (updated)

By Doug Barrett Sep 28, 2021 | 8:44 PM

Grand Forks voters have approved a ten mill increase in taxes to bolster the building fund of the school district.  Nearly 66% of voters said “yes” to the tax hike in today’s (Tuesday) special election.

Superintendent Terry Brenner says he was pleased the community got behind the “ask” for the building fund.  “It’s going to provide lots of relief for us in terms of our building fund…about $2.5 million in a revenue stream that we haven’t had for the last several years.  We can really pay attention to some of our facilities now.”

The tax hike will cost the owner of a $100,000 dollar home another $45 dollars a year.  A total of 4,190 voters cast ballots in the election.

A board meeting will be held to conduct the official canvass of results. The Grand Forks School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on October 11, 2021 at the Mark Sanford Education Center (2400 47th Ave. S).
