Grand Forks voters go to the polls one week from today (Tuesday) to decide the fate of the school district’s ten mill ask of taxpayers.
The increase will generate around $2.5 million dollars annually to support a growing list of maintenance needs. If approved the tax hike would equate to $3.75 per month for a $100,000 residential property owner and $4.17 for commercial property.
In June voters rejected a ten mill bump along with a plan to consolidate north side schools with a new campus at Valley Middle School. Superintendent Terry Brenner says right now the district is focused on the building fund – and the issue of a much needed new campus will take place later. “We would be poised to bring that back to the voters at some point. More planning needs to be done and we want engage the community even more that we did last time.”
Grand Forks Public Schools will hold a Facility Open House with guided tours of each school on Thursday regarding the state of facilities. Tours will being at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Next week’s in-person voting will take place at the Alerus Center with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
