ND Senators react to troop withdrawal from Afghanistan

By Doug Barrett Sep 1, 2021 | 8:19 AM

North Dakota’s two senators are reacting to the removal of troops from Afghanistan.

Senator John Hoeven is critical of the Biden administration for not fulfilling a commitment to remove all Americans and leaving behind valuable military equipment.

Senator Cramer called the withdrawal a complete failure.  Cramer says the President’s actions are unfitting for the office.

Biden says he “was not going to extend this forever war.” And he says he “was not going to extend a forever exit.”

One of the reasons cited by the White House for removing troops was the added stress being placed on service members.

Senator Hoeven has joined 32 other senators in calling on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to develop a comprehensive outreach plan to connect Afghanistan and Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) veterans to VA benefits and services.
