A large section of a Grafton hotel was destroyed by fire today (Wed).
At about 5:00 AM, firefighters were called to the Economy Hotel on Highway 17.
A guest in one unit notified manager April Henson, who said she ran to the room, saw smoke and fire in the bathroom ceiling fan.
Henson said she tried to put the fire out, but it spread into the attic.
No injuries were reported.
Henson says 11 units of the hotel were occupied. There were 22 people staying there.
The fire did not extend to a separate annex, but there was smoke and water damage.
Park River firefighters provided assistance. The fire is under investigation but it’s believed the cause is electrical.
