UND approves mask mandate on campus

The University of North Dakota issued a new directive on masks as classes are set to begin today (Monday) The new mask mandate is for indoor settings on campus.
In a statement released Sunday the university says the increasing number of COVID-19 cases has now placed Grand Forks in the CDC’s high (red) level of transmission.
The announcement goes on to say in order to continue operating normally in the early days of this semester a mask requirement for indoor public spaces takes effect today (August 23rd).
Public spaces are defined as hallways, classrooms, open seating lounges and teaching laboratories, but not individual offices or private living spaces.
Masks are strongly encouraged in all other public spaces. These include facilities such as residence hall common areas, campus apartments, common areas, the Wellness Center, and athletic facilities. When meetings are scheduled in residence hall common areas, masks will be required.
