The governor of Minnesota is touting some positive trends on the vaccination front for COVID-19.
Governor Tim Walz announced today (Thursday) the state has surpassed 70% of residents 16 and older with at least one dose of vaccine. The number of first doses administered per week in Minnesota is up 129% from one month ago.
Walz says he believes there are several reasons for the uptick in shots – including the ability to receive a $100 dollar Visa gift card. “We are seeing the highest rates in counties with the lowest vaccination rates. Now it makes a little sense since they have the most room to grow. I think $100 is the sweet spot to be honest.”
Counties in northwest Minnesota trail the statewide average for vaccinations among those 16 plus. The rates range from 53% in Marshall and 55% in Polk to 60% for Kittson and 63% in Norman.
