Demolition work began this week on the Ambassador Motel in Grand Forks.
The former 22 unit Inn on South Washington was closed in April after inspectors deemed the building to be unsafe. Several days later a fire caused an estimated $30,000 dollars in damage to the structure.
According to property records the motel was sold to Blue Star Investors. Prior to the sale city officials were told the new owners planned to raze the building and develop the site.
In June the Grand Forks council approved a demolition order if the new owners failed to raze the building. The Grand Forks Inspections Department issued a permit for demolition on Monday. A dollar amount on the demo was not listed.
