A Red Lake (MN) man has been charged in the Tuesday shooting death of a Red Lake Tribal police officer. 28-year old David Donnell was officially charged in federal court with one count of second degree murder and four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Officer Ryan Bialke was shot while responding to a call of a suicidal male on the Red Lake Reservation with children possibly in the residence. According to charging documents as officers entered the home gunfire erupted from inside the residence in the direction of four officers. Officer Bialke succumbed to his injuries and died on the scene. Officers retreated to the woods to escape continued gunfire. A short time later Donnell was arrested at a nearby residence.
A long line of law enforcement escorted Officer Bialke to the Cease Funeral Home in Bemidji Wednesday evening. Funeral arrangements are pending.
