Broadband provider eyes GF for expansion

By Doug Barrett Jul 29, 2021 | 8:45 AM

A Denver-based internet company looking to set up shop in Grand Forks is a step closer to inking a franchise agreement with the city.  The council gave preliminary approval to the deal at last night’s (Monday) Committee of the Whole meeting.

Clarity Telecom is looking to invest $30 million dollars on 78 miles of aerial and 58 miles of underground fiber to provide broadband service.

City Administrator Todd Feland says the agreement with Clarity is similar to the deal with Midco.  “This one is a ten year term…5% of the gross revenues come back to Grand Forks as franchise fees…it sets minimum standards for performance.”

Clarity plans to offer content and video packages in addition to internet service.
