GF chicken ordinance takes a step forward

By Doug Barrett Jul 20, 2021 | 8:44 AM

The Grand Forks council continues to fine-tune an ordinance allowing chickens to be raised within city limits.

The council is looking to place a 12 bird limit on the permit process – six of which could be chickens.  Members got bogged down last night over the distance for which owners would need neighbor approval – and the number of birds per yard.

The council settled on a 65 foot spread.

A proposal to place a ten bird limit with four chickens was later changed to 12 and six.  The health department’s Javin Bedard says they have had a few more permit requests in recent weeks and they are under review.

The council approved the revised ordinance on a six to one vote.
