Another GF school election likely in September

By Doug Barrett Jul 13, 2021 | 8:17 AM

Grand Forks voters could get another crack at approving a ten mill increase to the school district’s building fund this fall.  School administration will prepare a resolution in support of a second election for the school board to consider at a meeting in two weeks.  If approved the election would be held September 28th.

In June a majority of voters approved a building fund bump but it fell short of the required 60% needed to pass.

Business Manager Scott Berge says if the September vote fails the issue could not be brought up again for a full year.  “The 2.5 million dollars is not a savior as far as our deferred maintenance needs but it allows for some significant improvements.”

Board member Doug Carpenter says what happens in September will have an impact on future budget cuts.  Carpenter suggested the board start the budget process sooner rather than later.

In board action members named Eric Lunn as president and Amber Flynn as vice president for the coming year.
