The Grand Forks School Board met in a special meeting last night (Monday) to formally adopt the results of last week’s election. A handful of additional votes were added to the tally that saw an $86 million dollar bond – and ten mill bump in the building fund – go down to defeat. The board expects to discuss the election and the next steps at a meeting in July.
The board also used the meeting to formally submit an application for so-called ESSER II dollars by the June 30th deadline. The federal funding will net the district $8.2 million dollars for expenditures incurred between March 13th of 2020 and September 2023.
Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Ed Catherine Gillach says targeted funding includes: educational technology…supplemental learning…mental health support…and learning loss. “I don;t believe ESSER II required money be spent on learning loss but we felt it was important. That’s a primary goal and purpose of our organization.”
The district anticipates receiving nearly 18.5 million in ESSER III funding. The deadline for that phase of the program is August 17th. Officials note the application is not yet available from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.
