The Grand Forks council has approved tapping unused CARES Act money to help fund a pair downtown events this summer. Under the plan $25,000 would go to assist the Downtown Development Association with an Obelisk Event Series and $50,000 to subsidize the Greenway Takeover Festival. Both funding levels are half of what was originally requested. City Administrator Todd Feland says it’s somewhat incredible to even be talking about events given where the city was back in October.
Council member Bret Weber says the event industry was one of the hardest hit sectors during the pandemic. Weber urged the council to support full funding for Greenway Takeover.
The council voted 5-2 in support the lesser amount.
