EGF council discusses rate increases in 2021

By Doug Barrett May 26, 2021 | 8:00 AM

East Grand Forks residents could see a nine dollar increase in storm water and sanitary sewer rates in 2021.  The city council is considering the rate bump to help pay maintenance bills for aging infrastructure.

Under the plan five dollars would target the sewer fund and four dollars would go towards storm water projects.  A portion of each increase….two dollars respectively…would target infrastructure replacement and offset special assessments.

Council member Brian Larson floated the idea of an escalator clause in rates to keep up with future cost increases.

No decision was made on at last night’s (Tuesday) work session.  Final action is expected at the June 1st meeting.
