Vaccine shifts to younger age groups

By Doug Barrett May 17, 2021 | 8:25 AM

With fully vaccinated Americans still readjusting to a mask-free life many of the nation’s youngest vaccine recipients eagerly await the go-ahead from experts to pull their own masks down.

With the CDC saying new guidance on masks in schools and summer camps is coming soon –  younger Americans are rolling up their sleeves.  More than 3 million 12 to 18 year olds already getting at least one shot.

North Dakota Immunization Director Molly Howell says it may only be a matter of time before even younger kids can receive the vaccine.  “All the vaccine manufacturers are doing clinical trials on younger age groups.  Pfizer is anticipating ages 2-11 being authorized by September.  There are even trials in infants going on.”

Nearly 44% of eligible North Dakotans have been fully vaccinated.  Females hold a slight edge over males in rolling up their sleeves in the state.
