2 of 17 GF businesses fail tobacco compliance check

By Pat Sweeney Apr 20, 2021 | 2:00 PM

Two of 17 Grand Forks businesses failed a recent tobacco compliance check.

On April 15th, Grand Forks Police and under-age buyers checked businesses that hold state-issued tobacco licenses.

Even though federal law prohibits tobacco sales to those under 21… the P-D used buyers under age 18.

The buyer tries to purchase tobacco products — while not trying to conceal their age — and displaying an ID when asked for it.

The two businesses failing the check were Pilot Travel Center at I-29 and 32nd Avenue South… and Gateway Cenex on the 36-hundred block of Gateway Drive.

Police say the clerks who sold the products received a citation…and the businesses will face an administrative sanction.
