Grand Forks County continues to make good progress on the vaccination front for COVID-19. Michael Dulitz of Public Health told council members last night (Monday) that despite a significant increase in case counts as of late – with more people getting shots the numbers should start to fall. “We do have over 16,000 people in Grand Forks County who have been fully vaccinated. When we look at the number of people with 1st and 2nd doses we are over halfway towards our 60% goal.”
Last Wednesday the vaccination program administered some 2,200 doses of vaccine and the hope is to top that number this week. Dulitz says there is also talk on the national level of lowering the age group of those eligible for vaccine to include those 12-15.
The local health dashboard has Grand Forks in the “moderate” risk category for coronavirus – but close to slipping into the “orange” or “high” risk group.
City Administrator Todd Feland says they are working to provide vaccinations for eligible high school students in the school as soon as next week.
