(KNOX) – The Community Violence Intervention Center is experiencing another delay in receiving federal grants one year after dealing with a $1.1 million funding gap.
CVIC was expecting to deal with a $500,000 funding gap entering 2026, but the organization is waiting to get three more multi-year federal grants that were supposed to begin October 1st from the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. The total amount of funding CVIC is waiting for is $1.5 million, but the organization could only end up getting $475,000 in their first year. The money would be awarded through reimbursements and it would fund both housing and legal assistance.
CVIC was aware it was going to lose a $500,000 grant from the Englestad Foundation, and was made aware two years ahead of time. CVIC hasn’t found a new private donor yet and has been fundraising with its Meet the Moment campaign. The organization has raised close to $300,000, and that is 60 percent of its goal.
CVIC was also expecting to receive three multi-year federal grants in October 2025 that would be worth $1.78 million. It was also expecting another one year grant in January that would have increased the total to $1.8 million.
CVIC got about $600,000 because of the delay, and this funding was awarded in August.
CVIC has fundraising over $870,000 as of September 30th, and this is $64 percent of its annual budget. It is still working to fundraising $500,000 by the end of this year.
