Attorney General refuses to look into missing funds due to conflict of interest

(KFYR) – The financial performance of one of North Dakota’s state programs has been under heavy scrutiny following an audit that raised red flags about $4 million in missing or incomplete records.

The Development Fund was created to help grow North Dakota’s economy by offering financing that regular banks or investors usually don’t provide. Its main goal is to help start and grow businesses.

Attorney General Drew Wrigley will not pursue an investigation into the North Dakota Development Fund due to a conflict of interest.

Currently, his office represents individuals who have been involved in the Development Fund Board of Directors.

The Democrats are pushing for candidates in their party to take the attorney general seat, arguing, “Again and again we see waste, fraud, and abuse from the Republican Lawmakers and a culture of lawlessness in the executive branch.”

Drew Wrigley is running for reelection, and he faces Democratic candidate Tim Lamb.
