(KNOX) – The East Grand Forks City Council heard different project updates from different department leaders at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jorgen Erickson gave the City Council an update on the renovation projects happening at the Civic Center and VFW Memorial Arena. Erickson says the ice has been made at the Civic Center, but since the building is still under construction hockey players only have access to the locker rooms and ice. He also explains other work that has been done at the Civic Center.

Erickson says the exterior paint at the VFW Memorial Arena is finished and the bleachers inside have been installed. The groundwork for a sewer line project in the back of the building has started, and Erickson says more has been done at the Arena.

City Administrator Reid Huttunen says there is a plan to have ice on the VFW Arena by the first week of January.

City Engineer Steve Emery gave the City Council an update about Bluepeak installing a fiber network. He says that Bluepeak has finished installing conduit fiber and is now completing fiber splicing. He also says there is other work that will be wrapped up soon.

Public Works Director Jason Stordahl also gave an update and says that both lanes on the Sorlie Bridge are reopened. Although, he did also mention there is an issue with the signal lights at DeMers Avenue and Second Street Northwest.

Meanwhile, the City Council made several approvals. They approved a public health facility agreement with Polk County Public Health. The agreement allows Public Health to use both the Civic Center and VFW Memorial Arena in a public health emergency.

The City Council also approved renewing a lease agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for using park shop office space for drivers license testing. The renewed lease would have an updated rate of $1,600 annually, which is an increase from the $1,300 in the previous agreement.
