(KNOX/KVRR) – North Dakota insurance commissioner Jon Godfread says rising healthcare costs are the primary reason why Affordable Care Act rates are going up.
He says those who have both individual and small group plans through the ACA can expect higher rates.
Small group plan rates are going up from 9.5 percent to 18 percent, as the highest approved increase for this group for the Sanford Health Plan is at an average of 18.3 percent.
Individual market rate increases are going up between 7 percent and 19 percent on average.
The highest approved individual market rate increase for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota was at 19 percent on average.
State law gives the commissioner the authority to approve or adjust rates requested by companies.
Open enrollment for ACA plans is from November 1 to January 15.
