(KNOX/Valley News Live) – Jamestown Police say that officers had to pull a 60-year-old man from the James River Wednesday night after a caller said he might have been drowning

The Stutsman County 911 dispatch got a call from a woman at around 9:56pm who said she heard a man yelling for help from the river near the 1400 block of 2nd Avenue Northeast.

Officers arrived and found the man struggling in a river estimated to be more than 7 feet deep in the middle of the channel. Two officers went into the river and helped the man to the bank.

The man appeared to be highly intoxicated and in need of both additional medical and mental health care, police said. He was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment and observation.

Jamestown Police say no officers were hurt, but that some police equipment was damaged.
