(KNOX/KFGO/KBRF) – A man was killed when he got into a shootout with law enforcement in Otter Tail County last Friday.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says the County SWAT team responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 30000 block of Twin Lakes Road in rural Battle Lake at around 5:45 p.m. The caller reported stopping at the residence to check on a relative and they found the door barricaded. The caller told law enforcement that a man came to the door with shotgun and pointed it at them, as the caller was accused of trespassing. The man then reportedly hit the caller with the butt of the shotgun and forced them into their vehicle before returning inside and barricading the doors.
After arriving on the scene, the SWAT Team made attempts to communicate and negotiate with the man. The man was shooting at an armored SWAT vehicle , as both Douglas County and Red River Valley SWAT were called to help.
The man later reportedly left the home and pointed his gun at law enforcement, where an officer then shot the man. Officers and medical personnel tried to treat the man but he died at the scene. No one else including law enforcement were hurt and the suspect has not been identified.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting.
