(KNOX) – A Grand Forks man arrested last Wednesday in a car crash in Grand Forks now faces 12 charges that still include attempted murder. Ian Schneeweis is accused of hitting multiple pedestrians and another vehicle with his car before he crashed into both a tree and an apartment building entrance.
Grand Forks Police were called to the 1600 block of South 16th Street at 5:40pm. Police say Schneeweis ran from the scene after he crashed his car, but he was found and arrested a couple blocks near the crash site.
Court documents say he told police he was using meth and that he heard voices over the radio telling him to run over people.
It was originally reported that two people were hurt and suffered non life threatening injuries. It turns out that court documents say one man was knocked out and ended up being treated for a brain bleed, a broken facial bone and eye swelling.
A second person was walking her dog when Schneeweis drove through grass and hit her. She suffered a broken leg. A third person was not hurt when she fled and avoided being hit when Schneeweis hit a tree instead.
Schneeweis is charged with three counts of Class A felony attempted murder, two counts of Class B felony criminal vehicular injury, four Class C felony counts of reckless endangerment, felony terrorizing, felony criminal mischief, felony preventing arrest, a Class A misdemeanor for ingesting a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor duty upon striking an unattended vehicle and a Class B misdemeanor for refusing to halt.
Schneeweis was also taken to Altru and was later booked after he was medically cleared. He is currently being held at the Grand Forks Correctional Center, and his bond has been set at $1 million.
