(KNOX) –University of North Dakota President Andrew Armacost sent a letter to students and faculty on Monday, regarding the U.S. Department of Education’s current investigation into the university. They are being investigated for allegations that the school of aerospace has been investing and is involved in Chinese aviation companies “known to have close associations with China’s military.”
Armacost says that the Department of Education did not let UND know about these concerns before announcing the investigation. He also says the university is not aware of any connection between China and its unmanned aircraft systems research.
The Education Department said in a letter that UND did not provide any foreign funding reports prior to July 2020, but has reported in the years since there were 71 transactions that were valued at nearly $100 million. UND says it will comply with the investigation.
