(KNOX) –The North Dakota House has passed a bill that would ban the sale of natural kratom to anyone under 21 years old. The vote was 86-6. This bill would create both licensing and labeling requirements. It would also create criminal penalties.
The legislation now moves onto the Senate. The American Kratom Association is asking lawmakers to implement a ban on chemically manipulated 7-OH products and synthetic derivatives. They want all regulations of natural kratom to be based on science.
Meanwhile, The North Dakota Senate has passed a bill banning kratom and its derivatives. The vote was 46-1 and Republican State Senator Jeff Magrum of Hazelton was the only one to vote no.
The Senate bill includes a full ban on 7-OH and MGPI, as well as the MGM-15 and MGM-16 compounds in the drug. This bill now goes to the House.
