(KNOX) –Starting today, the Grand Forks Police Department is participating in a Distracted Driving Awareness Campaign.

The campaign will go until September 30th, while the department is still participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign that ends on September 7th.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation funds all these campaigns, and the police department has received roughly  $125,000 from NDDOT.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that at least 315,000 people were injured by distracted driving in 2024, and that more than 3,000 people died.

Using a phone or a wireless communication device when driving in Grand Forks can result in at least a $200 fine.

Officers will be focusing on distracted driving, but will also be looking to enforce all kinds of  traffic violations.
