UND Football Players Jonnie Wiltshire and Avery Scott Expected To Play This Thursday, Despite Eligibility Questions

(KNOX) –UND Football Players Jonnie Wiltshire and Avery Scott are expected to play in the team’s season opener this Thursday. The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit last Friday ruled in favor of the NCAA’s stay request in the Wisne vs. NCAA case. A stay request is when a court is asked to pause a ruling they made. This ruling from July says that Class of 2022 high school athletes who already used four years of college eligibility are able to receive and use an option for a fifth season.

Head Coach Eric Schmitt said Monday that both players can play Thursday because of a temporary restraining order they received earlier this summer.

UND Football Player Jy Martin is also seeing a fifth year, but Schmitt also said that Martin will not play and that the team will try to work out his eligibility case at the state court level. The Fighting Hawks football team starts the 2026 season on Thursday when they host LIU.
