(KNOX) – In an aggressive, physical rematch of last year’s state final, Fargo South topped Grand Forks Red River 2-1 in the EDC soccer opener at Cushman Field in Grand Forks Tuesday.
Johnnie Nathan delivered the first lead for Fargo South, scoring on an awkward shot while being tripped up from behind in the twenty-first minute.
Just two minutes later, Red River’s Easton Weisser equaled the match on a header from a corner kick.
The game remained tied at the break, but South’s Ethan Eiler scored the eventual game-winner in the forty-fifth minute.
Red River has Thursday off, and will play next Tuesday at West Fargo.
