Minnesota Department of Revenue Telling Families To Save Receipts From School Shopping

By Alex Carmenaty Aug 4, 2026 | 8:15 AM

(Learfield) – The Minnesota Department of Revenue is reminding families to save their receipts during the back-to-school shopping season. Spokesman Ryan Brown says many K-12 school expenses could qualify for either the state’s education tax credit or tax subtraction. Eligible purchases include notebooks, textbooks, school supplies, computer hardware and software, and musical instrument rentals. Internet service fees do not qualify. Most students attending public, private, or home schools may be eligible, depending on program requirements.
