(KNOX/Learfield) -There are new laws in Minnesota that went into effect Saturday. These new laws include a Crypto Kiosk Ban, new protections for domestic violence victims, and a new legislative services unit that has been established within the state patrol to respond to threats against elected officials. There are also new laws that make it a felony to impersonate a police officer and for an adult to sexually groom a minor.
Another new law that went into effect in Minnesota Saturday is the law that bans creating AI-generated fake nude images. The measure allows victims to pursue legal action against anyone who creates or distributes non-consensual, sexually explicit AI images. The total amount of civil penalties for each violation could be as much as $500,000. Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, challenged the law on First Amendment grounds, but Judge Donovan Frank denied its request. The Judge says that the company did not file the lawsuit fast enough. The case returns to court for a hearing on August 19th.
