(KTTC) – xAI, the Aritificial Intelligence company known for building Grok and owned by Elon Musk, filed a federal lawsuit to stop Minnesota’s nudification law from taking effect.
Nudification is defined in state law as: “an image or video is altered or generated to depict an intimate part not depicted in an original unaltered image or video of an identifiable individual.”
The lawsuit alleges this law violates the First Amendment.
The law passed with a vote of 132-1 in the House and 65-0 in the Senate.
The new law outlines strict prohibitions for those who own the services used for nudification. It doesn’t necessarily penalize people for accessing those programs but instead aims to prohibit sites from hosting those services to begin with.
The law is set to take effect on Saturday, August 1.
