(KFYR) – A dump truck crashed into a Bismarck home at the corner of West Rosser Avenue and North Washington Street at about 11 a.m. Saturday.
Homeowner Josh Businger was asleep in his living room when he was jolted awake by a loud roar followed by a loud crash. Businger said the truck was traveling south on Washington Street when it struck a street pole and then slammed into his house, which sits on the east side of the street.
Businger said he was not injured by the crash, and the truck driver went to the hospital with a possible knee injury.
The dump truck also hit Businger’s car, which was in the driveway. The impact spun the Chevrolet sedan around nearly 90 degrees. The crash damaged the rear of the vehicle on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides. The fire department’s special operations team responded and worked to shore up the home’s basement foundation with lumber. Businger said he could see one of the truck tires protruding through the damaged foundation.
The full extent of the structural damage remained unclear as of Saturday afternoon; a structural engineer will need to assess the situation in the coming days. The Bismarck police department said the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Bismarck city staff also secured the wiring from the streetlamp that was torn off at its base.
