(KNOX) – The U.S. Forest Service says a lightning strike caused a wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Three acres were burned over the weekend.
The fire was reported last Thursday during a routine fire patrol on Long Lake north of Grand Marais. Firefighters worked to put out the fire over the weekend, and it’s now considered to be 100 percent contained.
The Forest Service says fire crews are working to monitor any possible hot spots. The fire is apparently burning deep in the ground and it could take several days for the fire to be completely out.
The Boundary Waters is not closed, but the public is asked to stay away from the fire area.
