(KNOX/KFGO) – A man in Moorhead who threatened to shoot himself was stopped by a friend Wednesday morning.
Moorhead Police officers were dispatched to Second Avenue North at approximately 11:36 a.m. following a report of a possible overdose. While officers were on their way, emergency dispatchers received additional information that a man at that location was threatening to harm himself.
A friend of the man intervened before authorities arrived, resulting in a brief physical struggle. The friend managed to gain control of the firearm just as officers entered the building.
During the altercation, at least two rounds were fired. Investigators found no evidence to suggest the shots were directed at the friend or the responding officers, and no injuries were reported.
Both men were initially detained by police, and the firearm was secured. The man who was experiencing the crisis was transported to a local hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation.
The investigation remains active, and police said no additional information is available at this time.
