By Ryan Cunningham Jun 8, 2026 | 8:26 AM

(KNOX) – UND has received punishment from the NCAA for “impermissible recruiting conversations with a student-athlete from another school who had not been entered into the Transfer Portal,” according to a release from the NCAA.

UND assistant coach Travis Stepps is the coach involved.  Stepps is a cornerbacks coach with the Fighting Hawks.
UND will pay a $25,000 fine, will face a one-week ban on recruiting communications, three one-week bans on unofficial visits, a one-game suspension for Stepps and a year of probation for the football program, among other penalties.
There are, reportedly, no postseason effects on the team.
