ND schools to receive additional ESSER funds

By Doug Barrett Mar 26, 2021 | 1:33 PM

The Grand Forks School District will receive $18,495,697 dollars as part of the latest round of federal COVID relief funds.

The money is called “ESSER,” which stands for “Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief.”

State school superintendent Kirsten Baesler said the schools received $33 million in April, 2020, and $135.9 million in December, 2020, and will receive $305.3 million under the new American Rescue Plan.

In a message to staff Grand Forks School Superintendent Terry Brenner says while it’s less than the district thought it would receive based on previous communications it is still a terrific amount – with restrictions.

Twenty-percent of the money is designed to target learning loss.
