Grand Forks County Begins Planning Ahead

(KNOX) – Less than four months into 2026 and the Grand Forks County Commission is already looking towards 2027.

The board this week agreed to a plan that would have them meet every Tuesday afternoon between June 30th and August 4th to work on next year’s budget. Each meeting would focus on a different topic ranging from department requests and special levy’s to compensation and benefits.

In anticipation of another tight budget County Administrator Tom Ford asked commissioners if department heads should craft spending plans up to a 3% reduction. Commissioner Terry Bjerke says he fears several large pending capital projects could deplete any cash reserves left in the bank.

The county needs to have a preliminary budget submitted by August 10th.
