East Grand Forks has secured a $143,750 dollar grant through the “Mighty Ducks” program to help pay for a new refrigeration system at the Civic Center.
The city is looking to replace the current R-22 system which is growing in cost as the refrigerant is being phased out over environmental concerns. Local dollars would be used to match the grant – including the potential $30,000 Kraft Hockeyville award secured last year. Park and Rec Superintendent Reid Huttunen informed the council of the award this week.
Park officials are also finalizing an agreement with JLG Architects for Pre-Design and referendum services. The city is eyeing a potential sales tax vote in November 2022 for arena and other park improvements.
