(KNOX) – Grand Forks Central girls soccer remained undefeated in dramatic fashion Tuesday night.
Jacie Reardon scored in the 49th minute, and Hailey Anderson-Tibiatowski made several clutch saves, including two on a Bruin free kick, that sealed a 2-1 win over Fargo South at Cushman Field.
The win sent Central to first place in the Eastern Dakota Conference, claiming their second win and moving to six points in the league standings. All other teams were idle due to weather Tuesday.
Gametime temperatures were 34 degrees, with a “feels like” value of just 23, but Fargo South found a hot start, with Tameka Limvere scoring in the fourth minute on a throw-in from the corner.
Central responded with a goal by Addison Lang, scoring on a free kick in the 13th minute, sending the game to a 1-1 tie at the break.
Reardon’s goal in the 49th minute would prove to be the game-winner, but perhaps the biggest plays in the match game on a late Bruin free kick.
Anderson-Tibiatowski was called upon to defend a free kick at close range from Bruin Ava Rudolph. Rudolph’s kick was turned aside by Anderson-Tibiatowski, but a rebound ended up immediately in front of a Bruin, and a second shot was taken off the head by the goalkeep, preserving the lead for the Knights.
Central will host West Fargo Sheyenne Friday night at Cushman Field.
