(KNOX) – Red River soccer was impressive in earning a win in the Eastern Dakota Conference opener Tuesday night in Grand Forks.
On a chilly night that saw a kickoff at 31 degrees, Taylor Hodny supplied the heat, scoring twice in the first 15 minutes and scoring three total goals in a 5-0 win over West Fargo Sheyenne at Cushman Field.
Sheyenne came into the matchup 3-0, with a win over regular EDC favorite Fargo Davies in the first weekend of soccer. The Mustangs scored 11 goals in their first three matchups.
Hodny scored on a pass from Reese Rems in the 14th minute, then added a penalty kick in the 15th minute for an early 2-0 lead.
Makayla Peters scored in the 24th minute, and Alexia Giannopoulos added a goal on a pretty play in the 29th, giving Red River a 4-0 lead headed to the locer room.
Hodny tacked on her third late in the 77th minute for the 5-0 final.
Red River is now 2-0 after a 5-2 win over Jamestown in the non-conference opener last weekend. They will face Fargo North on the road April 7th.
