(North Dakota Monitor) – North Dakota Senate Minority Leader Kathy Hogan announced Thursday she will not seek reelection this year.
Hogan, of Fargo, a longtime leader of the Democratic-NPL Party, said it was a difficult decision to step away, but family matters needed to come first.
“My husband is 90, so it was a family decision and it’s very bittersweet,” Hogan said in an interview with the North Dakota Monitor. “It has nothing to do with the Legislature. It just has to do with my family’s needs.”
She represented Fargo residents of District 21 in the North Dakota House of Representatives starting in 2009 and has served in the Senate since 2019, including the two previous legislative sessions as minority leader. Prior to her time as a lawmaker, she worked in human services for 40 years, which included 28 years as director of Cass County Social Services.
